As we return back to the office or settle into hybrid working we all know that there will be things that have changed forever and others that are still to change. The metaverse is definitely the latter.

It is said that the metaverse is the next evolution of the internet and we will soon be able to hold the video calls and conferences that we have got used to over the last two years, in virtual reality - further bridging the gap between remote and in person meetings.

With all new technology, there are always people who look to exploit it. The Forensic Technology industry has historically had to play "catch up" when it comes to identifying and investigating new sources of information but in this instance there is likely going to be a lot less time than maybe we all would have hoped.

Multi-modal communications where a conversation could start on a phone call, be followed up with an email and then finally, a text message to close the loop has become a large part of eDiscovery in the past two years, adding a new form of communication will in itself pose challenges we will need to adapt too.

With companies like Facebook and now Microsoft vowing to lead the push into the metaverse, it won't be long until the uptake of the new technologies is widespread in both our work and personal lives. It is our job to ensure we are equipped to deal with the challenges that this will inevitably bring.
